This week we commemorated Remembrance Sunday. We had poppies from the poppy appeal in the nursery. One child said that “My daddy has a poppy on his coat”. The older children liked seeing the poppies and were going to remember to bring in money so they could wear one to school.
We used the poppies as part of our planning for last week. Some children were given the poppies to examine and to draw what they saw. Observational drawing focuses the skills looking at detail and the thought process needed to think the steps required to recreate the poppy. For example what colour pen, how big the petals are, how long the stem is.
Some children preferred to colour in a printed image, it was actually the older children that preferred this. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a colouring in sheet.
